The Adventures of Martín the Wizard — In Search of Laika

The Martín the Wizard Universe  ·  Vol. 1 of the main series

Martín didn’t choose to be a wizard.

He was chosen.

And that changes everything. Those who choose can prepare. Those who are chosen have to learn as it happens.

In Search of Laika is the beginning of a journey that doesn’t start with a sword or a prophecy. It starts with an absence. Something missing. Someone missing. And the certainty that no one else will go looking.

Martín will discover that magic isn’t power. It’s responsibility. That listening is harder than acting. And that sometimes the real obstacle isn’t out there—it’s in what you still don’t know about yourself.

Opening scene

The afternoon had that usual color: worn yellow, settled dust, light coming through the window like it was in no particular hurry.

Martín was at his desk.

Notebook open. Pen in hand. Three lines written and two crossed out.

Laika slept at his feet.

What he did do, every so often, was check that the weight was still there. A small, quiet contact that didn’t interrupt his homework but kept it from feeling quite so solitary.

He checked twice in a row today.

Without knowing why.

He picked up the pen. Put it down. Picked up the other one. Put that down too.

There on the desk, next to the open pencil case, was the fountain pen.

Black. Silver band near the cap. The cap had the letter M engraved on it, very small. The M stood for Martín. Or for Magic. Or for Mystery.

He picked it up.

And then he noticed something strange.

It was cold.

Not the normal cold of an object that’s been sitting for a while. A different cold. More precise. As though it had been somewhere other than the desk—even though no one had moved it.

He was about to put it down again when it happened.

The M glowed.

Not like a reflection.

Like an answer.

Just for an instant. So fast that Martín blinked and it was gone.

He set it on the edge of the notebook more carefully than necessary.

“Too good for today,” he murmured.

Laika opened one eye. Just one. She closed it right away, as if she’d confirmed that everything was still in its place and no further investigation was required.

“Thanks for checking,” Martín said.

Laika didn’t answer.

The Log was open on his desk.

He hadn’t opened it.

The page was blank. Completely blank.

Until a line appeared, written in light:

“Every dream begins when someone listens.”

The first volume is available for literary representation. Martín the Wizard is a transmedia IP built from the ground up: book, series, licensing.

“A work with tremendous editorial potential. A story that treats emotions without talking down to the reader. Narrative craft. It’s not easy to weave story and message together and make it land for a specific age range.”
