At first people brought what they believed in and watched the needle and accepted the result.
After a while some of them figured it out. Which side to load first. When to add slow. When to wait for the other person to look away.
The needle kept landing the same direction. Predictable, if you knew how to read it. If you didn’t, it still looked even.
They put glass on the front. So everyone could see it working.
Nobody looked at the needle anymore.
They watched the glass.
Moral:
Fit the measure to the outcome
and justice is already over.
The glass doesn’t lie.
It just doesn’t show the needle.
