They built a platform to speak from.

Many voices had passed through it over the years. They explained the arrangement. Gave it a name. Defended it. Made it sound like the only arrangement possible.

One day nobody went up.

Nobody spoke.

Everyone listened anyway. The silence came down from the platform the same way the words used to.

It was enough.

Moral:
Power doesn’t need a voice
when the habit already listens.
The platform doesn’t have to be occupied
for people to look up.
