The Octopus Mother

The octopus loved with eight arms.

And with eight arms she solved everything.

If the young one hesitated, she guided. If it strayed, she brought it back. If it was afraid, she wrapped herself around it.

The young one learned early that the sea was vast and that the arms were home.

One day a current arrived. The young one didn’t know how to bend. It had never learned to yield to water. It only knew the arms.

The octopus came. She held it.

The young one’s arms hung still at its sides. They didn’t push. They didn’t resist. They didn’t know what to do without being held.

The octopus held it tighter.

And that was all she could do.

Moral:
Whoever embraces to keep fear away
teaches the need for embracing.
The sea does not embrace.
