The Places We Keep

— IV. The Unfinished Conversation —

The Places We Keep — The Unfinished Conversation

Some conversations never really end.

Not because someone forgot to say goodbye.

But because a part of us never stopped listening.

Years pass.

We forget the café.

The street.

The weather.

Sometimes even the face sitting across from us.

Yet one sentence remains.

Not perfectly.

Not word for word.

Like a light left on in a room we no longer enter.

We notice it years later…

while choosing a different road.

while comforting someone we love.

while finding ourselves saying something we once needed to hear.

And for a brief moment…

the years between disappear.

We realise the conversation was never asking us for an answer.

It was quietly teaching us how to see.

Perhaps that is why we remember so few words…

…and spend a lifetime living inside them.

Some people never know they became part of another person’s inner world.

Perhaps the most important conversations are the ones that never really finish.

Some stories return to the same places.

Mine tend to.
