The bird sang differently. Not louder. Not softer. Just different.
At first they corrected the rhythm. Then the note. Then the intention.
— That’s not how it’s done, they told it. Listen first.
The bird listened. Repeated. Adjusted. Tried again.
— Almost, they said. Just a little more.
It sang every morning. More contained. Shorter. The other birds tuned together. It was easier that way. Cleaner.
One day the bird stopped mid-song. It waited for a sign. A correction. A gesture. Nothing.
It tried again the next day. It sang exactly as it had been taught. No one noticed.
The chorus went on. Perfect. Flawless.
The bird went quiet. Not from sadness. From learning.
The forest sounded the same. For a while, no one missed anything. Later, some remembered that something used to be there they couldn’t name.
What can’t be named can’t be missed.
The song went on. And that was enough.
Moral:
Uniformity doesn’t shout.
That’s why it’s hard to hear what’s missing.
And what isn’t heard
ends up being what never existed.
