
The peacock spoke about cleanliness. Decency. Order.
He spread his tail when he spoke and closed his eyes when he looked down.
From his height, everything appeared correct. The feathers shone. So did the speeches.
Under his feet was the same ground he pretended wasn’t there.
Down below, the smell stayed. Nobody looked.
Neither did the peacock. But his feet knew what they were standing on.
Moral:
The rot that lasts longest
never shows in what gets displayed.
It shows in what you walk on.
