
The bull had pulled for years. He knew the work. Heavy, but clear.
Then the field changed and they told him to push differently. Quiet. Controlled. No strain showing.
He tried.
His body made the shape of effort without the effort. He felt it wrong every time. Every pause seemed like failing.
The load sat there.
He stood next to it.
He didn’t know what was wanted anymore.
