
The horse was always ready. That was what everyone said about him.
When he rested, someone came to remind him of the load waiting. When he slowed, a hand on his neck.
After a while he stopped waiting to be asked. He was already pulling before they hitched him.
His feet kept moving even when the road ran out.
The cart stood still. Nobody knew how to push it. The horse didn’t either.
Pulling was the only thing he’d ever learned. Pushing is different. It always is.
Moral:
Know only how to give
and you won’t know how to stop.
